TP Human Capital is recruiting for our Townsville Based client Ornatas who is currently undertaking commercial Tropical Rock Lobster hatchery production and requires an experienced Aquaculture Nursery Team Leader to drive its commercial nursery operations at Toomulla Beach, Townsville QLD.

The position reports to the company's Farm Manager and will work closely with the hatchery and farm operations to deliver commercial quantities of Tropical Rock Lobster juveniles for grow out in ponds in QLD and Sea Rafts in WA.

About You:

The successful candidates will have the following skills:

You will bring commercial production experience in aquaculture hatchery and nursery systems, preferably bio secure fish or prawn facilities and have a genuine interest in further developing your career in the aquaculture industry.

  • Extensive knowledge of aquaculture principles - experience in commercial aquaculture nursery or hatchery facilities, system design, RAS operation, feed preparation/production and water quality monitoring.
  • Highly developed personal and communication skills, you will be a strong leader and have experience in managing a large team.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to think outside of the box.
  • Self-starter with hands on practical skills
  • A bachelor's degree in Aquaculture or similar including significant experience.

Desirable skills include:

  • Understanding of Tropical Rock Lobster Biology
  • Experience in the culture to Tropical Rock Lobsters
  • Experience in Biosecurity and disease management

Key duties will include but are not limited to

  • Management of the daily nursery operations including - Training, Mentoring and supervision staff.
  • Manage the production on lobster within the Nursery system including lobster husbandry, Water quality monitoring, animal health and accurate data collection.
  • Assist in the management of Nursery feed production from our in-house feed production area.
  • Assist the Site Manager and farm manager in the delivery of capital projects required for the commercial production of Tropical Rock Lobsters. Including planning, construction, commissioning, and management of recirculating systems (RAS) within the nursery.
  • Occasionally you will assist the R&D manager in the delivery of specific research projects including work being undertaken within the following 2 programs:
  • ARC Sustainable Onshore Lobster Aquaculture - Partnership with UTAS
  • CRCNA Pioneering Tropical Rock Lobster Raft Grow out for Northern Australia

The successful candidate must hold a current driver's license and be an Australian Citizen or have existing legal working rights.
