About Department

The Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery Unit at SVHM, has been a leader in the microsurgical reconstruction of both traumatic and malignant defects throughout the body, as well as elective and acute hand surgery. It is aligned closely with the O'Brien Institute which has offered reconstructive laboratory research fellowships successfully for many years. It has also had a close relationship with the Peter McCallum Institute and now the VCCC. Some consultants work in both units.

About the role

You will gain exposure to a wide spectrum of reconstructive surgery including: breast, sarcoma, head and neck, skin malignancy, hand surgery and maxillofacial surgery. Clinical management of patients will be under the care and direction of the Directors of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in each unit. The successful applicant will be expected to work closely with the SET trainees in each unit to successfully manage all inpatients and outpatients. They will be expected to do on call as the registrar and assist in teaching the junior staff. There will be multiple educational opportunities across both campuses. Whilst employed by St Vincent's Hospital, each successful applicant will work 6 months in each of the Plastic and Reconstructive Units at St Vincent's and Peter McCallum Hospitals.

Hours: 1 EFT (43hrs +/- overtime)

Closing Date: 20/06/2021

Classification Range: HM25 - HM30 ($119,542.8 - 164,538.40)

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience applying medical knowledge towards sound clinical diagnosis, investigation and treatment of patients
  • Demonstrated effective communication with patients, relatives, staff and colleagues
  • Classification of PGY4 or greater
  • Full working rights in Australia
  • Hold current AHPRA registration & hold an MBBS or equivalent
  • Hold a current, or willing to undergo a satisfactory National Police Check and if required a NDIS Check at your own expense.
  • Have a commitment to deliver the best in patient care and safety
