About The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to support continuous improvement at BMA’s Caval Ridge Mine in Bowen Basin, QLD. The Site Improvement Lead, reporting to the Improvement Manager, will be responsible for enabling the improvement specialists within the team to deliver exceptional value to site.

You will be part of a high performing team, responsible for leading change and improvement which materially shifts the dial on Caval’s performance.

The Site Improvement Lead will identify and execute projects designed to unlock value and reduce waste through embedding continuous improvement deep into our culture.

This 4/3 dayshift only role is located at Caval Ridge, 12km west of Moranbah supporting FIFO with flights included out of Brisbane or Cairns or DIDO from local areas. Accommodation and meals are provided at a modern accommodation village located close to the mine.

Responsibilities Will Include (but Are Not Limited To)

  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations;
  • Identifying, framing, scheduling and managing key improvement projects, spanning across all departments in safety, culture & cost;
  • Managing a team of up to six improvement specialists to deliver tangible value to the site;
  • Analyse and validate core processes on site in order to identify and resource initiatives that will provide the greatest value uplift;
  • Training and coaching in WAVE for new users;
  • Managing, supervising and coordinating the implementation of our BOS Principals (BHP Operating System) in the operation;
  • Facilitating changes or the establishment of new core routines necessary to strengthen and maintain the operating system.

About You

The behavioural qualities you exhibit in this role will be critical to set the expectation to all employees at site to ensure the timely delivery of improvement projects. Therefore, you must be passionate and have high energy levels, to ensure that together we are improving Caval Ridge Mine every day.

University degree in one of the following disciplines; Engineering, Operations Research, Business, Science, Finance, Commerce (or similar) advantageous but not essential.

Your skills in influencing, problem solving and facilitation, along with the ability to challenge existing thinking will play a key part in this role.

You Will Possess The Following
  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, flexibility and willingness to see projects through to completion.
  • The ability to work autonomously and to be able to grasp new skills.
  • Experience in leading or implementing a process improvement or change management project, including facilitating problem solving sessions at the front line.
  • Proven track record as a process expert with experience implementing a relevant activity with the frontline with strong root cause analysis and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience using continuous improvement and problem solving methodologies.
  • Minimum of C class manual driver’s license.

It is preferable you will have demonstrated experience in the following areas:
  • Understanding of the Lean and Six Sigma , Theory of Constraints, Toyota Production Systems or similar Lean concepts and application
  • Prior experience in portfolio and project management (full lifecycle) or supply chain improvement projects
  • Ability to use simple statistical and graphical tools such as Pareto analysis
