Anglo American Bulks division has a number of large investments in coal and manganese mining joint ventures in Australia, South African and Colombia. These represent amongst the largest and most advanced mining operations in the respective commodities and generate a significant portion of Anglo American annual profits. A small team manages Anglo American’s interest in these Joint Ventures to ensure the protection of Anglo American’s interest and the progression of best practices, highest value and appropriate governance processes.

Job Description
-Reporting to the Head of Strategy, Business Development and Joint Ventures, you will lead the technical accountability, risk management and governance processes to ensure the protection and advancement of Anglo American’s interest in the Non-Managed Joint Ventures.
In this key role you will work as part of a small team leading the progression of best practices, realisation of highest value and implementation of appropriate governance processes for all non-managed joint ventures under our responsibility (Cerrejón, Jellinbah Group, Samancor Manganese)
This role will be rewarding, varied and will include:

  • Working with our joint venture partners and the senior asset management team to oversee, audit and influence technical practices and outcomes;
  • Ensuring that appropriate risk management processes are maintained/developed within these assets; and recommend and implement best practice governance processes.
  • Be responsible for auditing and overseeing technical models (LOMP, resource plans, etc); reviewing operating and technical practices and seeking improvements; recommending and supporting implementation of new technologies;
  • representing Anglo American in technical committees;
  • Managing and influencing Joint Ventures operating and technical practices and processes
  • Developing, with the JV management team, clear asset strategies to best manage Anglo American’s interest
  • Providing regular reporting to Anglo American stakeholders
  • Reviewing appropriateness of budgets, capital submissions and investment decisions

Qualifications
-Key to your success will be your:

  • Extensive experience within a large, complex organisation coupled with the ability to think strategically, plan effectively and solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise, influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders (CEO, CFO, COO level) within the assets and joint venture partners
  • Substantial senior level experience in open cut mining operations and/or technical roles to support you in this role.
  • You will hold an appropriate tertiary qualification in a related discipline.
