St Hilda’s School is owned by the Diocese of Brisbane and the School Council is appointed by the Archbishop in Council. The major functions of the School Council are the appointment of the School Principal, the fixing of the annual budget and the fixing of school policy. The Principal, in the role of Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the day-to-day running of the School. All staff are responsible for carrying out their duties.

Head of English

Full Time, 5 year tenure commencing Term 3, 2021

The School is seeking a dynamic and experienced educator to fill the important position of Head of the English Faculty. The Head of English is responsible for the leadership, management and administration of the English program for Years 7-12. The successful candidate will further develop the culture of learning at St Hilda’s.

He/she will have a thorough understanding of curriculum and the teaching of English throughout the Middle and Senior Schools and have proven experience leading teachers collaboratively and collegially as a Head of Faculty. The successful candidate must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate sensitively and confidentially with parents, students and other staff.

Candidate applications should:
Detail recent Senior English teaching experience across all levels and specifically including Literature;
Highlight experience with elevating staff capability and guiding curriculum delivery;
Identify knowledge and proven experience of the new senior curriculum;
Demonstrate the use of and integration of technology across the curriculum;
Discuss innovative teaching practices which reflect an ability to lead, develop and inspire students and;
Detail capacity to enhance literacy support programs

Selection Criteria

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:
Skills and Abilities

Significant teaching experience and exemplary performance across year levels in the subject area
Proven experience as a Confirmer with QCAA would be highly regarded
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including collaboration, mentoring, facilitation and relationship building, conflict resolution and leadership of a high performing team
Understanding and commitment to the Anglican ethos
Extensive knowledge and appreciation of pastoral care programs and practices
Ability to exercise leadership in supervising staff, monitoring their wellbeing and overseeing their professional development
Ability to mentor and exercise leadership of staff
Capacity to exercise and demonstrate pedagogical and curriculum leadership
Demonstrated interest and capacity in curriculum design, innovation and implementation, including the integration of appropriate technologies that support student learning
Willingness to be an advocate for the subject area in the wider educational community and to be actively involved in external curriculum bodies
Strong understanding of, and ability to effectively implement policies and procedures mandated by the QCAA for the Senior years of schooling
Highly developed administrative and organizational skills with the proven ability to lead change and manage competing demands and priorities to meet deadlines
Ability to work as a constructive team member both within the Faculty and among the Heads of Faculty group, and when appropriate, other School planning and Leadership groups
Proven experience managing the administrative duties related to the Department


Degree in Education, post graduate qualifications an advantage
QCT Registered Teacher
Current First Aid including Asthma and Anaphylaxis or willing to obtain this prior to commencement.
