About the Role

Reporting to the Executive Director Strategy, Planning and Communication, an exciting opportunity has become available for a dynamic and highly experienced communications professional to join our leadership team. The role is responsible for strategic communications, including executing the St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne Communication Strategy, providing sound advice to the CEO on media and communication issues and opportunities, including reputation management, and managing all internal and external communications. You will lead a high-performing Communication and Media team and employ your advanced written and verbal communications skills, adept stakeholder management skills and understanding of the health industry to deliver excellent outcomes. This role is based at SVHM's Fitzroy campus. Some inter-campus travel may be required.


  • Execute the St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne Communication Strategy and associated programs to support the organisation's strategic goals.
  • Provide leadership and management for the Communication and Media team to achieve high performance.
  • Develop and implement internal and external communication and stakeholder engagement strategies, campaigns and events to support organisational initiatives, priorities and major projects.
  • Build and maintain recognition and equity in the St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne brand, while protecting the organisation's reputation.
  • Act as the primary media contact for the Hospital, including after hours and weekends.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering strategic communications and associated programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams for optimal performance.
  • Significant media relations experience, gained within a complex organisation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Well-developed planning, management and organisational skills.
  • High level of interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience in influencing, networking and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal confidently and professionally with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  • Proven working style, which is flexible, positive and collaborative.
  • Degree qualifications in communications, journalism, media and/or public relations.
  • Post-graduate qualifications in one of the above areas is an advantage.
