The Head of Finance is a broad role which oversees the day to day finance operations across Financial Control and Finance Shared Services (transaction processing) including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Expenses and all associated accounting and reporting responsibilities. They will strive to improve controls and process efficiency, leading team with geographic responsibility for Australia and New Zealand.

The role ensures that the correct level of service is provided to the business and that there are sufficient and appropriate resource levels to achieve this, whilst managing towards budget targets.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Control & Reporting

  • Overseeing the Head of Financial Control and team ensuring statutory and internal reporting deadlines are met.

  • Lead on the delivery of the statutory accounts, local reporting, local tax reporting and compliance, working closely with tax and legal as required.

  • Work with Group on the assessment of future developments in applicable legislation and reporting standards relevant to the Finance function

  • Oversee monthly and quarterly close processes. Emphasis on challenge and analytical review of month end close position to support effective financial control.

  • Oversight of the cash flow budget and forecast processes and daily liquidity reporting working with Group and treasury functions.

  • Own the balance sheet reconciliation policy; propose updates and amendments as required. Feeding in to the Group Balance sheet risk reporting process.

Shared Services Operational Excellence

  • Ensuring Shared Services functions meet standards and locally determined SLA’s for receipting, invoice and payment processing.

  • Managing resource levels to meet demands of seasonal peaks and troughs in volumes.

  • Seek improvements and standardisation in processes to ensure quality, efficiency and reliability

Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain internal relationships with the FP&A teams.

  • Liaise and manage auditors at interim and year end closes

  • Support Shared Services in financial control advice and accounting policy guidance

  • Be a leadership point of contact for the business. Capable of hands on problem-solving, with ability to generate ideas and solutions.

  • Work closely with the Head of Finance in Brighton to ensure Globally standardised processes and controls

People Management & Leadership

  • Coach and develop team to maximise their contribution and realise potential

  • Build and maintain succession planning within department.

  • Encourage a culture of continuous improvement throughout the finance department identifying and implementing best practise initiatives.

  • Manage resources to meet peaks and troughs of workload and identify risks.

  • As a key leader in the local finance team, contribute to town halls, succession planning, employee engagement and employee survey activities.

  • Able to challenge and support at a senior level

Ad hoc project work

  • Assist the wider Finance team with ad hoc project work, as required

  • Involvement in Global Finance team projects

  • Work closely with Finance projects team to ensure process improvement culture is maintained and ensure that we get the most out of our systems.

Experience Required:

  • Considerable PQE

  • Managing Audit

  • Financial Accounts preparation

  • Using a range of finance/MI systems

  • Team management experience

  • Working in a Global role across continents

  • Appreciation of IFRS and

  • Ability to prepare and review financial accounts.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and convey technical information to non-finance audiences.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Excellent ability to multi-task, managing up and downwards and prioritising accordingly

  • Relationship management and customer service skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team.

  • Good working knowledge of accountancy systems

  • Strong Excel skills

  • Strong business acumen and confidence to influence decision making
