The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking to appoint a Senior Standby Worker to work as a part of our UnitingCare Standby Support after Suicide CQWBSC team based in Rockhampton or Gladstone on a Part Time basis. The role is 45.6hrs per fortnight and we would ideally like the successful candidate to work across 3 or 4 days per week.

  • This role has an emphasis on Community Development which includes assessing the resources, skills and experience available in the community and partnering with community and service providers to plan, organise and evaluate events and workshops around the topic of suicide postvention.
  • As a Senior StandBy Worker you will develop links with relevant stakeholders such as frontline responders, funeral homes, Primary Health Networks (PHNs), mental health services, educational institutions, suicide prevention and postvention networks, workplaces, sporting groups and community groups. This will be achieved through attending meetings and networking opportunities.
  • As a Senior Standby Worker you will respond effectively to trauma and grief suffered by people impacted by suicide and provide referrals for support.

What you'll need:

We are seeking a motivated individual who can work autonomously as well as within a team and who has experience in working in a Community Development and Event Planning role. You are passionate about making a difference in the lives of people impacted by suicide. You have experience in working with human service organisations and you conduct your work with a person-centred, trauma-informed approach.

In addition to the above you will also be required to have:

  • Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications and demonstrated knowledge and skills in working with people impacted by suicide.
  • Demonstrated, well developed interpersonal, communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in the areas of crisis intervention and trauma response including knowledge of self-care management practices.
  • Current Drivers Licence.
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
  • A criminal history check will be conducted on the recommended person for this position.
