Full Job Description
The West Moreton and Brisbane Youth Detention Centres at Wacol precinct are looking to fill key cultural support roles on a temporary basis.

The role of the Cultural Liaison Officer is to deliver culturally safe and appropriate behavioural and management interventions for young people within the accommodation and structured day precinct of the detention centre.

This role also has an advisory and advocacy function relating to individual needs and standards of care pertaining to the wellbeing of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander young people in detention.

It is a genuine occupational requirement that this position be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.

One referee should be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person who can attest to the applicant's background, knowledge, skills and experience as they relate to the cultural capabilities.

Key duties include:
  • Maintain cultural standards of care in case management framework by providing cultural support for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander young people during new inductions, caseworker and transition interviews, program referrals, behaviour development plans, special interest young people and review meetings.
  • Support the development and implementation of a cultural practice policy within the accommodation unit.
  • Improve the overall cultural competency goals within the operational stream through providing cultural advice and education through cultural knowledge training.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and advocate on behalf of the cultural wellbeing of young people in detention.
  • Provide cultural mentoring and coaching support for young people in detention and model appropriate cultural behaviours and expectations.
