The Brisbane Youth Detention Centre is looking to recruit a Cultural Engagement Officer who will be responsible for identifying relevant key stakeholders across government departments, the private sector and non-government organisations and has strong experience engaging with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities and people. You will need to provide strong interpersonal and research skills to assist the delivery of appropriate programs and services to support the social, emotional and cultural wellbeing of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Clients in Youth Detention.

You will also need to have detailed knowledge of current issues, trends and practices that impact Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities and peoples.

You focus on key points, apply cultural sensitivity and use appropriate language. You tailor your communication style and language according to the audience's level of knowledge, skills and experience when responding to queries.
  • Role specific - you communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and have a sound knowledge and understanding of both cultures and societies and the issues which impact upon them in a contemporary society.
