Full Job Description
The operation is designed for a +30 year mine life and production of 8Mtpa. It comprises a long life and world-class magnetite deposit; dedicated rail infrastructure; and an integrated train load-out/ship loading facility at our Geraldton port operations. Karara is breaking new ground with the development and ongoing operation of the first significant iron ore mine in the mid- west.

Karara has an excellent opportunity for an experience and motivated Processing Manager to lead its plant operations teams. This is a high level leadership position, accountable for mineral processing and metallurgy operations, engineering projects and overall department performance.

The Processing Manager is charged with ensuring all short, medium and long term mineral processing plans are not only met, but documented and communicated to key stakeholders to ensure ongoing alignment to business goals and objectives.

  • To be considered for this position, applicants must hold an Engineering Degree in either a mechanical (fixed plant), chemical or metallurgy discipline. Significant senior management and operational experience in similar mineral processing operations is essential*
This role is site based and operates on a 5 days on 2 days off / 4 days on 3 days / 9 days on 5 days off roster.

Technical and Operational Responsibilities:
Operational responsibility for all mineral processing, metallurgy, production, tailings management and water management related activities including:
Crushing circuit - primary and secondary crushers;
Grinding circuit - high pressure grind rollers;
Flotation and magnetic separation circuits;
Concentrate production;
Concentrate dam;
Mineral processing operations;
Metallurgy and laboratory;
Process engineering;
Tailings dispersal and tailings dam management;
Karara’s water supply system including process and waste water management; and
Management of Processing, Metallurgy and Water Management personnel and contractors.
Manage department budget forecasts, budgets, expenditure and reconciliation
Ensure all operational activities adhere to Company strategies, goals and objectives
Ensure all department activities are undertaken in line with safety, cost effectiveness and productivity requirements
Develop and implement strategic planning for the medium to long term for the department
Represent the department in leadership meetings providing an update on business activities and achievements
Manage and collaborate with superintendents to ensure there are effective people management processes, including performance reviews

Essential Knowledge and Experience:
A minimum Mechanical (fixed plant), Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering Bachelor Degree
Significant senior management and operational experience in mineral processing operations, including large scale primary and secondary crushing circuits, specialised grinding applications (HPGR) and mineral flotation, thickening and filtering plants and tailings management
Demonstrated ability to establish strategy, planning and high performing teams
Exposure to magnetic separation and magnetite processing/beneficiation would be advantageous
