At Queensland Rail we pride ourselves on having an unmatched knowledge of rail, leading rail technology as well as extensive experience in mechanised maintenance. Our team based in Maryborough operates and performs servicing, repairs and maintenance on large on-track vehicles (OTV’s) that carry out critical resurfacing work throughout our network as part of scheduled track maintenance and for critical large-scale rail projects that benefit the Queensland community and our customers.

We are looking an experienced Operator Maintainer to join our well-established Resurfacing team based in Maryborough on a full-time permanent basis. In this role you will be responsible for maintaining track by the efficient operation and maintenance of all plant and equipment used by our track resurfacing teams.

About the role 

You will join a team that works a block roster of 8 days on 6 days off and will be required to work every second weekend (subject to change depending on business needs). You will also need to be available to travel throughout Queensland and work away from home regularly. In addition, you will:

  • Operate machinery unsupervised ensuring all aspects of works are carried out in an efficient and safe manner in accordance with all relevant manuals and track standards.
  • Operate machines to ensure total compliance to Queensland Rail’s policies / rules and safe working procedures independently or as a team.
  • Carry out regular servicing, minor and preventative maintenance on all on-track and auxiliary plant.
  • Assist tradesperson in mechanical / electrical repairs / maintenance of on-track plant as required.
  • Undertake administrative and recording duties.

About you

  • Previous experience operating and servicing on-track and auxiliary plant as well as experience in ballast regulators and resurfacing tempers, in a rail environment is advantageous.
  • Current drivers’ licence, MR licence is desirable.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety.

What to expect

  • Currently working a block roster, an average annual salary including penalties and overtime is approximately $70K. Base salary is circa $51,753 + $3,140 (all-purpose allowance) + generous super.
  • Penalties for nightshift (25% penalty) and weekend work (Saturday 50% penalty and Sunday 100% penalty).
  • Pay increases as you develop your skills.
  • You must be willing to work away from home however travelling for field work will be part of your working hours. Queensland Rail will also pay for your accommodation when staying away from home.
  • Paid training (including a Certificate II in Rail Infrastructure) and ongoing support to develop your experience with access to internal vacancies.
  • Strong focus on safety – we ‘work safe’ every day to ensure everyone goes ‘home safe’.
  • Tools, uniform, PPE and shared vehicle is supplied.
