About City Development Branch


Located in the Planning and Environment Directorate, the City Development Branch promotes sustainable development throughout the city that benefits the residents and the environment.


Key Position Responsibilities

The role is responsible for providing strategic leadership, support, development and management of a team of planning professionals in providing an end to end service across the range of planning related appeals that are currently in the Planning & Environment Court appeal process. The role is also responsible for Planning and Development Certificates.

The position occupant will ensure the effective case management (end to end process) of development applications and appeals. The position is responsible for giving specific advice and instructions in relation to the technical/town planning aspects of an appeal. The position is also responsible for the identification and communication of improvement opportunities in the Planning Scheme and associated policies and guidelines.

About You

  • Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including:
  • Demonstrated supervisory, leadership and staff management experience including the ability to mentor others, foster professional development and transfer knowledge, and manage/monitor performance
  • The ability to work collaboratively and productively within a multi-disciplinary team environment and foster good relationships with employees and clients.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and investigative skills/techniques
  • The ability to exercise initiative and judgement, and be innovative when dealing with non-routine matters
  • negotiation skills
  • the ability to present and articulate complex/technical matters (including education)
  • ability to write executive management/complex reports.

Mandatory qualifications/requirements

Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent knowledge.
