Environment: The PCCC is a multi-party committee of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland. Its main functions are to monitor and review the discharge of the functions of the Crime and Corruption Commission (the CCC).
Functions: A key role of the Parliamentary Commissioneris to conduct certain audits and inspections of CCC records under the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000, the Crime and Corruption Act 2001, and the Telecommunications Interception Act 2009. The Parliamentary Commissioner must also conduct an annual review of the intelligence holdings of the CCC and Queensland Police Service.
The Parliamentary Commissioner also assists the PCCC in enhancing the accountability of the CCC, by undertaking a range of key functions on behalf of the PCCC and at its direction, including inspecting operational files and other material held by the CCC, investigating complaints against the CCC and other functions as required by the PCCC.
The position: The Parliamentary Commissioner must be a person who has served as, or is qualified for appointment as, a judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland or of another State or of the High Court or the Federal Court. The Crime and Corruption Act 2001 disqualifies certain categories of persons from appointment.
