We are currently recruiting a Youth & Family Support Coordinator to join our headspace team. This program is funded by the PHN under flexible funding to support young people with, or at risk of, severe mental health issues.

About headspace

headspace is Australia's National Youth Mental Health Foundation. Our mission is to deliver improvements in the mental health, social wellbeing and economic participation of young people aged 12 to 25 years.

Our multi-disciplinary team of health professionals provide support to young people in the areas of primary health, mental health, drug and alcohol and vocational and educational support services. 

The Role

You will work as part of a team to support young people with severe mental health difficulties and psychosocial complexity. A key part of your role will be to provide time-limited, coordinated support to young people in conjunction with the Mental Health Clinician (Enhanced headspace Services), the wider headspace Taringa team and external service providers.

The positions will focus on:

  • Identifying relevant support options for the young person
  • Supporting the young person to identify their goals and developing plans to achieve them
  • Working with the young person to develop skills to meet their psychosocial needs through centre-based and outreach work
  • Working with families to coordinate care and help them to better understand and support their young person’s mental health needs
  • Undertaking risk assessments and developing risk management plans for young people
  • Liaising and meeting with other stakeholders to coordinate the young person’s care
  • Over time empowering young people to build the skills to support themselves.
  • Working with young people to strengthen and enhance their capacity to become self-directed in coordinating and managing their own supports and increasing their social and economic participation
