About This Opportunity

The Technical Officer (Agronomy) provides field based technical support for teaching and research in soil and crop sciences. The position supports, maintains and operates field equipment, provides specialist, technical and OH&S advice to students and staff in the conduct of research. Although a member of the Plant Sciences technical team, the role may be seconded to support teaching and research in other discipline areas.

The position is based at our Gatton campus. Some travel to St Lucia or other remote sites for training and work purposes may be required.

Our Ideal Candidate

Applicants should possess a Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline, or a diploma or post trades certificate with at least 2 or more years of subsequent work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training. You should also have technical knowledge in the areas of soils, agronomy and plant science with experience in pest control, crop production, irrigation and fertilisation, and an ability to communicate and train others in these areas.

The successful applicant will also require experience in field and farm operations including site preparation, coordinating trials, maintaining or repairing farm equipment, and developing the farm to meet the demands of clients and the priorities of the School and University. You should also have strong interpersonal and organisational skills with an ability to work in a diverse team will also be important.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW Level 5.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $70,796 - $78,852, plus super of up to 17%.
