About the role

  • The Principal Engineer manages extensive projects / programs to ensure outcomes are achieved which are consistent with Council’s goals.
  • The Salary Range for this position is $103,179.56 to $116,445.47 gross per annum plus 17.5% annual leave loading and up to 12.4% superannuation.
  • This position comes with a Restricted Private Use vehicle.
This is a permanent full-time position located at the Crows Nest Service Centre.

How to be successful in this position - Success Criteria * Hold the mandatory qualification(s), training and/or experience, as outlined under the Success Criteria in the attached Position Description.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate, provide initiative, implement, monitor and evaluate projects or programs in accordance with departmental/corporate goals.
  • Substantial knowledge and understanding of legislation applicable to local government and Council’s strategic operations with an ability to manage projects within identified timelines, budgetary and legislative provisions or guidelines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), including the demonstrated ability to consult, negotiate and liaise effectively with a diverse range of people (e.g. internal and external stakeholders such as Council staff, consultants, government agencies, members of the public, suppliers, contractors).
  • Demonstrated ability to make effective decisions under pressure in rapidly changing environments to achieve desired outcomes
  • High level problem solving and research/analytical skills including the ability to obtain and interpret information and make specific recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions within the accepted parameters of Council policies, procedures, work practices and delegations
  • Demonstrated ability in providing financial, specialised, technical and professional and/or administrative advice on policy matters within the department.
  • Understanding of and commitment to Council's Organisational Value of Teamwork.
